Concept
Liminality
Also: Liminal state
A temporary, in-between state in which old structures have been loosened on purpose so that new connections and patterns can form.
Not every move out of order is a failure. Some formats deliberately break existing ties so that something new can emerge — a hackathon is one: it pulls people out of established structures and routines for a short, bounded time. Liminality is chosen and bounded; confusion is not.
