Exaptation GmbH is a consultancy in Schenefeld near Hamburg, founded in April 2026 by Lasse Alexandros Diercks. It helps organisations act in complex situations. It offers complexity audits and mapping workshops, twelve SenseMaker studies that let customers or staff tell and interpret their own stories, AI literacy and AI orientation workshops, private AI pilots on a client's own documents, and migrations away from US cloud providers. Exaptation starts small, tests in safe-to-fail steps and says plainly what nobody can predict. It works in German and English.

Lasse Alexandros Diercks, the founder and Managing Director, has built software for fifteen years across every layer of it: interfaces and design systems, checkouts and APIs, the Kubernetes infrastructure the company's own website runs on, and the AI agents that help run the business. That range is the point: the costly problems in organisations rarely sit in one department. They sit between design and engineering, between hosting and law, between what a dashboard measures and what actually happens.

The name comes from evolutionary biology. An exaptation is a trait that evolved for one purpose and was later put to another, the way feathers kept birds warm long before they carried them. The firm's working premise follows from it: most of what an organisation needs is already there. Exaptation helps it see that, and put it to new use.

Topics Lasse can speak on

Lasse Alexandros Diercks is available for interviews, background talks, panels and talks, in German or English.

  1. AI literacy under Article 4 of the EU AI Act, after the Digital Omnibus

What the 2026 Digital Omnibus changed in the AI literacy duty, and what a company that uses AI should now actually do and keep on record.

  2. Private AI on your own servers instead of US cloud services

When an open model hosted in the EU or in-house is the better choice, what it takes to run one, and where it falls short.

  3. Why AI pilots fail, seen through Cynefin

Many AI pilots are planned like a complicated project when the situation is complex. What changes when they are run as small, safe-to-fail experiments instead.

  4. Design systems that teams actually use

What fifteen years of building interfaces show about design systems: why adoption is an organisational question more than a technical one.

  5. Narrative research with SenseMaker

How hundreds of short stories, interpreted by the people who tell them, show patterns that surveys miss, and what such a study takes to run.
