Concept

Coherence

Also: Coherent hypothesis

The quality of an explanation or action that makes sense given what we know, even though it cannot be proven in advance.

A useful test for the complex domain: when there are several contradictory hypotheses about a problem, each coherent in itself, and testing all of them is not feasible, you are most likely dealing with complexity. Instead of picking one, you run small, parallel, safe-to-fail experiments for the coherent ones and see which patterns respond.
